Xiaomi was one of the fastest growing mobile phone companies in the Indian mobile phone market when it became the number one mobile phone brand in India. This time Xiaomi has been able to invade the global market. With the revenue that Xiaomi earned in June this year, they have surpassed Samsung to become the number one mobile phone maker in the global market.
Counterpoint reported sales of 26% of its mobile phone units in June 2021, more than any other month. At the same time, Korean company Samsung, the world’s longest-serving mobile phone maker, has slipped to second place.
In May 2021, Xiaomi became the second largest phone maker in the European market, surpassing Apple in May, and in December 2020, it fell to third place in the global market, ranking Apple fourth. However, Samsung is still able to secure the top spot with revenue from mobile phone sales.
Although Samsung still tops the list in terms of sales revenue, Xiaomi has surpassed Samsung’s sales revenue in India and several other regions. Much of it comes from sales of Mi 11 phones.
According to a report by Counterpoint, Samsung has given several reasons for this decline. The main reason given is that Vietnam, which produces most of Samsung’s mobile phones, has been hit hard by the COVID-19 epidemic, which has hampered production and has not been able to meet the global demand for mobile phone units. It also cites Huawei’s setbacks as a reason for Xiaomi’s big leap.
Under these circumstances, Xiaomi has been able to gain the maximum share of the market by selling only the Redmi 9, Redmi Note 9 and Redmi K40 models. What is special here is that the American market was closed to Xiaomi when Xiaomi achieved this victory.
As of June 2021, Xiaomi had a 17.1% stake, followed by Samsung and Apple with 15.7% and 14.3%, respectively.
The report also states that Samsung will remain in second place for some time to come as the current situation in Vietnam continues unabated.
